Vic Mizzy: 1916-2009

Sad news, Percepto Records’s Taylor White has announced that composer Vic Mizzy passed away on October 17.

Known for his quick wit and good nature, Mizzi was born in 1916, in Brooklyn, New York. He is most well known for his The Addams Family TV show theme, but scored over a dozen films, including the dramatic horror picture The Night Walker and three popular Don Knotts comedies, The Ghost and Mr. Chicken, The Reluctant Astronaut and The Shakiest Gun in The West. Mizzy’s other indelible TV themes included Green Acres, Mr. Ed and Quincy. He also wrote or co-wrote over 100 original songs.

In 2001 Percepto Records released a limited edition, comprehensive overview of Mizzy’s film and TV music with Suites and Themes, and followed that up with many other of the composer’s titles.

Further details forthcoming at percepto.com and vicmizzy.com.

Update: 10/20/09 – Full obituary at L.A. Times.
