Academy deep-sixes promos; eBay stock plunges

By Ryan Keaveney

In a move that should have shocked no one (and much to the chagrin of eBay shills), considering it’s history of marginalizing it’s music component, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science (aka The Oscars) has dealt another blow to their Music Branch, this time banning the distribution of promotional discs. This move will effectively eliminate the only way Acad members hear a score outside of a film or judge it’s pure musical merits.

This decision does not effect how other award organizations like the Hollywood Foreign Press’ Golden Globes or the Emmys do business.

Jon Burlingame originally reported the story in Variety.
